App Will Make It Easier For Scientists To Identify Bacteria

A new app will make it easier for doctors and scientists. The app was created by a team of researchers at UC Santa Barbara. It will use a smart phone camera to test a chemical reaction. It will allow doctors to be able to make a diagnosis in just one hour. This is not only easy, but it is also cost-effective.

Michael Mahan is a professor at UC Santa Barbara. He is also the lead author of the study. He stated that this new app will allow healthcare providers to diagnose a urinary tract infection in just one hour. It typically takes 18 to 24 hours to diagnose a UTI.

It is simple to use this app. The healthcare provider will collect a sample of the patient’s urine. After that, the app will analyze the urine specimen by using a diagnostic kit and smart phone camera. Tom Soh is another one of the study authors. He stated that this app will make it easier for engineers and biologists. He believes that this technology will allow doctors to provide people with better healthcare.

It only costs about $100 to administer this test. Dr. Michael Fitzgibbons is an infectious disease doctor. He stated that it is important to treat urinary tract infections because they can be harmful to some patients. For example, if a pregnant woman gets a UTI, then she is more likely to miscarry.

There are a variety of patient specimens that the app will be able to identify. This includes feces, blood and urine. Jeffrey Fried is a clinical care physician. He stated that this app will allow doctors to diagnose and treat conditions early. If the condition is treated early, then the treatment will be more effective.

This app is available for Android. It can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
